What is Word Notebook?

Word Notebook (Dil Defteri in Turkish) is a vocabulary notebook app for Android and iPhone. You save the words you come across in your own notebook and review them with flashcards, multiple-choice quizzes and writing practice. Word Notebook is free to download; Word Notebook Pro is a one-time payment, not a subscription.

Who makes Word Notebook?

Word Notebook is developed and published by Premium Yazılım, a small software studio in Türkiye. The website is dildefteri.com and the support address is destek@dildefteri.com. Premium Yazılım is also the app's data controller (Privacy policy). Word Notebook's icon and mascot is Buddy, a notebook character with its tongue out.

Which devices does Word Notebook run on?

Word Notebook runs on Android (Google Play) and iPhone (App Store). Words are saved to your account and come back on a new phone. You sign in with email or Google, and also with Apple on iPhone. To use Word Notebook on both an Android phone and an iPhone with one account, sign in with email or Google, because Sign in with Apple is only available on iPhone.

Is Word Notebook free? How much is Pro?

Word Notebook is free to download. The free version allows up to 2 notebooks and 200 words in total; it has no banner ads and shows a full-screen ad when you finish a practice session or close the add-word sheet after adding 5 or more words (on iPhone, sometimes also when you open the app), never while you type words or practise. Word Notebook Pro is a one-time payment: $9.99 in the USA, €9.99 in the euro area and ₺299.99 in Türkiye; in other countries the store shows the local price. There is no subscription. Pro gives unlimited notebooks and words and removes all ads. Words already added stay available at the limit; only adding new ones needs Pro.

What can you do with Word Notebook?

In Word Notebook you keep a separate notebook for each language you learn (22 languages). Each word can have several meanings and an optional example sentence, and you can listen to both with your phone's voice. There are three practice modes: Flashcards (see the word, reveal the answer, mark whether you knew it), Quiz (pick the right meaning from four options) and Write (type the meaning or the word; small typos are recognised). You can practise word → meaning, meaning → word or mixed. Words you got wrong or skipped collect in My mistakes. There is also a dark theme and a daily reminder.

What ready-made word lists does Word Notebook include?

Word Notebook includes 1,535 selected words: English (662 words, 49 units), German (341 words, 30 units), French (286 words, 28 units) and Spanish (246 words, 24 units). Each course has six levels from A1 to C2, and every word has an example sentence. The upper levels are selected words (about 10 per unit at C1–C2). Passing a unit test with 70% opens the next unit, and a passed unit never locks again. A whole unit, or only the words missed in its test, can be added to your notebook in one tap. Course translations exist in English, Turkish, German, French, Spanish and Russian; the course in the user's own language is not listed. The course word lists were compiled by an English teacher from major, widely used reference sources.

Which languages does Word Notebook support?

Word Notebook's interface is available in six languages: English, Turkish, German, Spanish, French and Russian. Notebooks can be created for 22 languages. Ready-made courses exist for English, German, French and Spanish.

What does Word Notebook not do?

Word Notebook is a vocabulary notebook with practice modes. It does not schedule words automatically with a spaced-repetition (SRS) algorithm; the user chooses what to practise. It does not teach grammar, listening or speaking; the courses are ready-made word lists. It does not promise results in exams such as IELTS or TOEFL. It has no "learned words" counter or progress analytics, and it doesn't sell subscriptions. An account is required.

Are Word Notebook, Dil Defteri and Vokabelheft the same app?

Yes. The same app is published under a different name in each language: Dil Defteri (Turkish), Word Notebook (English), Vokabelheft (German), Vocabulario (Spanish), Vocabulaire (French) and Словарик (Russian). That is also the name on your home screen; in the stores a short description follows it (for example “Word Notebook: Vocabulary”). The publisher is always Premium Yazılım and the website is dildefteri.com.

Blog posts and this page are written by the Word Notebook team at Premium Yazılım. Facts about the app come from the app itself and its store pages, and we don't write about features that don't exist. Example sentences and translations are checked against dictionaries before publishing, and facts that can change, such as exam dates, come from official sources and carry a date. Posts are dated and updated when facts change; if you spot a mistake, email destek@dildefteri.com and we'll fix it and add a dated note at the end of the post.
